Sometimes a PDF is the wrong shape for the job. You want to drop a page into a slide deck, attach a preview to a message, or post it where PDFs are not allowed. Turning each page into an image fixes that.
When to convert PDF to image
- Embed a page in a presentation or document.
- Share a preview where PDFs will not display (many social and chat apps).
- Grab a chart, diagram or receipt as a picture.
JPG or PNG?
- JPG — smaller, best for pages that are mostly photos.
- PNG — sharper for text and line art, and larger. Best when the page is a document or diagram.
Convert without uploading
A PDF you are turning into images is often a private document. This tool renders each page on your device — nothing is uploaded:
- PDF to JPG — one image per page, ready to download.
- PDF to PNG — crisper text and line art.

Going the opposite way — building a PDF from images? See How to combine images into a PDF. And if the source PDF is huge, compress it first.
