What is Lorem Ipsum?
Lorem Ipsum is placeholder text used in layout and design — Latin-looking words with no real meaning. Its job is to fill a layout before the real copy is ready, so designers can judge fonts, line spacing and overall composition without being distracted by readable content. This generator produces filler text of any length, entirely in your browser.
How to use
- Choose a unit (paragraphs / sentences / words) and a count.
- Optionally start with the classic "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…".
- Click Generate, then copy or download.
Common use cases
- Fill draft layouts for web, slides or print.
- Test fonts, line spacing and typographic composition.
- Need to hit a word count? Pair it with the word counter; to tidy text use the text cleaner.
Always replace it before launch (and the CJK layout trap)
Lorem Ipsum is placeholder text — it lets you judge fonts, line spacing and overall layout before the real copy is ready. The classic disaster is forgetting to swap it for real content before launch — live sites really have shipped with "Lorem ipsum" in production. Treat it as a draft and always replace it before publishing. There's also a trap when designing CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) layouts: Lorem's Latin word lengths and line breaks roughly match English, so it previews English layouts well — but CJK has different character widths, punctuation and line-breaking rules, so Latin filler distorts a CJK layout. In that case, use filler in the same language instead. Need to control length? Pair it with the word counter.
Which part is fixed and which is not?
With "start with the classic opening" ticked, the text always begins Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. — that sentence is checkable. Everything after it is drawn at random, so the same settings give a different paragraph every time; our run came out at 1767 chars. So we publish only the opening as a verifiable fact and deliberately do not present the rest as a measurement. The randomness is the feature: filler you could predict stops working as filler the moment a reviewer recognises it.
